Musiikin tohtori (MuT) Matias Häkkinen on BarokkiKuopio-festivaalin ja Ensemble Nylandian taiteellinen johtaja ja toimii lisäksi vapaan taiteilijan ominaisuudessa kapellimestarina, solistina ja taiteellisissa suunnittelutehtävissä useissa ammattiorkestereissa ja organisaatioissa.
Soittajana ja äänenjohtajana Matias Häkkinen on esiintynyt lähes kaikissa Suomen kaupunginorkestereissa sekä mm. Euroopan unionin barokkiorkesteri EUBOssa (European Union Baroque Orchestra), European Union Chamber Orchestrassa, Suomalaisessa barokkiorkesterissa, BRQ Vantaa Ensemblessä, Radion sinfoniaorkesterissa, Laivaston soittokunnassa, Kaartin soittokunnassa ja Avanti!:ssa, Opus X -orkesterissa ja Kansallisoopperassa. Esiintymisiä hänellä on ollut myös kymmenillä eri festivaaleilla ja konserttisarjoissa Suomessa ja maailmalla. Viime vuosina hän on tutustunut uusiin soittimiin, kuten erilaisiin syntetisaattoreihin, klavikordeihin ja kampiliiroihin, sekä tehnyt improvisaatiokokeiluja ja -esiintymisiä mm. Tölöläb-kollektiivin kanssa. Häkkisen ja barokkimuusikkoystävienä periodinsoitinrockyhtye Tavallinen peili täytti juuri kahdeksan vuotta. Matias Häkkinen on Taideyliopiston Sibelius-Akatemian taideopettaja vanhan musiikin aineryhmässä. Lisäksi hän on toiminut myös Helsingin ammattikorkeakoulussa (Metropolia), Sibelius-lukiossa ja Helsingin konservatoriossa, monissa musiikkiopistoissa sekä lukuisilla mestarikurseilla säestäjänä ja cembalonsoiton, basso continuon sekä kamarimusiikin opettajana. Hän on myös vanhaa musiikkia kirkkojen ja konserttisalien ulkopuolella esittävän eri puolilla Suomea toimivan Café Barock -konserttisarjan taiteellinen johtaja ja tuottaja sekä Suomen solistiyhdistyksen taiteellinen neuvonantaja ja on toiminut aiemmin mm. kansainvälisen New Century Baroque -orkesterin taiteellisena johtajana, Sattuma-monigenreklubin perustajana, Muusikkojen liiton alajaosto Solistit ry:n johtokunnan jäsenenä ja Suomen vanhan musiikin liiton puheenjohtajana. Häkkinen on opiskellut pianon- ja cembalonsoittoa mm. Anssi Mattilan, Menno van Delftin, Seppo Saloviuksen, Joonas Pohjosen, Ana Mafalda Castron ja Annamari Pölhön johdolla Sibelius-Akatemiassa, Stadiassa, sekä Amsterdamissa ja Portossa. Opintojaan hän on täydentänyt mm. Gustav Leonhardtin, Ton Koopmanin, Laurence Dreyfusin, Pierre Hantaïn, Bob van Asperenin, Huguette Dreyfusin ja Andrew Lawrence-Kingin antoisilla mestarikursseilla. www.matiashakkinen.com www.ensemblenylandia.fi |
MatIAS HÄKKINEN,
Artistic Director
Doctor of Music (DMus) Matias Häkkinen is the Artistic Director of the BarokkiKuopio Festival and Ensemble Nylandia. In addition, he works as a freelance conductor, soloist, and artistic consultant with numerous professional orchestras and cultural organisations.
As a performer and section leader, Häkkinen has appeared with nearly all Finnish municipal orchestras, as well as with the European Union Baroque Orchestra, the European Union Chamber Orchestra, the Finnish Baroque Orchestra, BRQ Vantaa Ensemble, the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Finnish Navy Band, the Guard Band, Avanti! Chamber Orchestra, Opus X Orchestra, and the Finnish National Opera. He has also performed at dozens of festivals and concert series in Finland and internationally. In recent years, he has explored new instruments, including various synthesizers, clavichords, and hurdy-gurdies, and has engaged in improvisation projects and performances with, among others, the Tölöläb collective. Häkkinen’s period-instrument rock band Tavallinen peili, formed together with fellow baroque musicians, recently celebrated its eighth anniversary.
Häkkinen serves as a Lecturer in Early Music at the Sibelius Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki. He has also taught at Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, the Sibelius Upper Secondary School, the Helsinki Conservatory, numerous music institutes, and many masterclasses as an accompanist and teacher of harpsichord, basso continuo, and chamber music. He is also the Artistic Director and Producer of Café Barock, a concert series presenting early music beyond the traditional settings of churches and concert halls throughout Finland, and serves as Artistic Advisor to the Finnish Soloists’ Association. Previously, he has worked as Artistic Director of the international New Century Baroque Orchestra, founder of the multidisciplinary Sattuma club, board member of Solistit ry (the soloists’ section of the Finnish Musicians’ Union), and Chair of the Finnish Early Music Society.
Häkkinen studied piano and harpsichord with, among others, Anssi Mattila, Menno van Delft, Seppo Salovius, Joonas Pohjonen, Ana Mafalda Castro, and Annamari Pölhö at the Sibelius Academy, Stadia University of Applied Sciences, and in Amsterdam and Porto. He has further refined his artistry through masterclasses with distinguished musicians including Gustav Leonhardt, Ton Koopman, Laurence Dreyfus, Pierre Hantaï, Bob van Asperen, Huguette Dreyfus, and Andrew Lawrence-King.
