XVIII BarokkiKuopio Early Music Festival July 20th to 24th
Eighteenth BarokkiKuopio festival will happen 20.-24.7.2022 in Kuopio, Finland! This years theme is sense/sensation.
Why does music create different feelings and sensations in us? What kind of sensations do you have in your lungs, hands or fingers when playing an instrument? What happens to your heartbeat when you listen to music? Can music feel fluffy? What kind of music is familiar to us, what feels close or distant and why? What kind of atmospheres can you create with music? Can music taste like coffee?
Answers to these questions (and possibly more questions) can be heard in Kuopio July 2022! Full program will be published in March.

About us
BarokkiKuopio is a festival focused on early music in all its glory! We are standing firmly on two feet with our approach to music. The left foot is rooted in the traditional early music performed with period instruments, but also with all kinds of inventive and imaginative instruments and ways. The right foot stands in using early music period instruments to perform a wide variety of different genres of music, be it traditional early music, classical music from other eras or greatest hits from the 1980’s! In all these cases we strive to find the essential spirit, style and message of the music at hand and aim to bring the audience the best possible performance from both traditional and sometimes surprising and playful points of view.
The festival was founded by gamba player Markus Kuikka in 2005, and it has been held in Kuopio, Finland every year since. From 2017 on the festivals artistic director has been harpsichordist Matias Häkkinen, and it has expanded its collaboration with various local, national and international organisations, such as the city of Kuopio, Café Barock, Ensemble Nylandia and Kuopio Parish Union. We are also a proud memebr of REMA, the European Early Music Network! BarokkiKuopio is organised by a non profit organisation (BarokkiKuopion kannatusyhdistys ry) with Tatu Ahola as its chairman and Sanni Antikainen as the general manager. The festival is held annually in July and concists of five to six days of absolutely great concerts and outdoor events!

XVI BarokkiKuopio moved to 2021
Due to the global corona virus situation and the consequent travel restrictions the XVI BarokkiKuopio festival has been moved to July 2021. We value the safety of our audiences and artists above all else, and did no want to risk causing potential harm to anyone.
We do however have four concerts this July and hopefully a few more during the autumn, including a christmas concert with Café Barock! The concert information can be found under "Ohjelma 2020" leaflet.
